Staying safe and sane while traveling over the holidays

November 5, 2018 by John B. Wright Insurance Leave a Comment

The holiday season is the busiest time of year for travel, and it’s just around the corner. Hitting the road or friendly skies between Thanksgiving and New Years can be exciting, dreadful or both. To make travel as easy and exciting as possible, read these tips for staying safe and sane on your excursion.

Leave the valuables at home

It’s in your best interest to leave valuables at home. Carrying expensive items makes you a target both on the road and at the airport. Plus, there is the risk of your bags being lost, and your prized possessions along with them.

Check the weather

Winter weather can be unpredictable, and the holiday season is notorious for canceled flights and closed roads. However, you should have a good idea of what the weather will look like the day before you are scheduled to head out. If things are not looking good, consider delaying your departure or at least make contingency plans in case you end up stranded.

Pack your carry-on strategically

Despite your best efforts, your travel plans could still be affected. You should pack your carry-on so that it has everything you need for at least an overnight stay in a hotel, just in case your flight ends up being cancelled.

Keep paperwork and identification organized

To save your sanity during stressful travel, one thing you should do is keep everything in one spot—tickets, IDs, visas, etc. A passport wallet is a great item to have!

Purchase traveler’s insurance

Ultimately, no matter how much you prepare, things can still go wrong. So you should be prepared for the worst case scenarios. A good traveler’s insurance policy will cover canceled flights, lost luggage, illness and more. To find a policy that works for you, speak with an insurance broker.
